Lumsdale Tearooms sits just off Matlock’s main street, offering a quiet spot that feels a world away from the busier town centre. This café is a comfortable place to slow down, especially on a crisp morning when a warming Full English or one of their hearty breakfasts can set the tone for the day. The friendly, approachable staff make the experience feel personal, whether you’re here for a quick coffee or a more lingering catch-up.

The tearoom strikes a balance between traditional and contemporary, with classic china cups and saucers serving up strong pots of Yorkshire Tea alongside carefully prepared espresso-based drinks. There’s a good selection of award-winning loose-leaf teas for those who like to explore beyond standard brews. Hot chocolates, especially the richly indulgent Hot Chocolate Melts, provide a comforting treat when the weather turns cold.

Food here is thoughtfully prepared, with notable highlights including the Big Lumsdale Breakfast, praised for its generous bacon, and lighter choices such as the chicken and bacon salad with mustard dressing. Homemade touches like sausage rolls and freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam add to the welcoming, homey vibe. The portions lean towards generous, which makes a visit here feel like a generous pause from the usual rush.

The atmosphere is quietly convivial — a mix of locals and visitors who appreciate dialing things down a notch, especially on weekend mornings or weekday afternoons. This is a spot where people come to take a moment for themselves or share a relaxed chat over a well-made cappuccino. The venue’s support for local artists, with artwork displayed for sale, adds a subtle community layer that fits well with Matlock’s smaller-town feel.

Lumsdale Tearooms works well as a mid-morning coffee stop, a casual lunch spot, or a gentle afternoon break. It’s especially appealing to those who prefer independent cafés over chains, valuing friendly service, sensible prices, and simple, satisfying food in a quiet, comfortable setting.

Such a quaint and comforting atmosphere! Visiting from a highly urbanised area, the Lumsdale Tearooms brings a soothing calm to the mind. The food is amazing, with a large variety of breakfasts, paninis, and such. I highly recommend the Big Lumsadle breakfast as the bacon is to die for!! I bought the hot chocolate melt, and it's succulently sweet :) The staff are so polite and welcoming and it helps bring a lovely atmosphere. For a new business, I can see the tearooms thriving, and I highly recommend coming here!! -Make sure to try the Lemon Drizzle cake!

Been today for a "Tea for Two" , Had a love selection of - Cakes (two each) which you can choose, - Sandwiches (inc Ham and cucumber, egg and wild salmon with cucumber), - Homemade sausage roles (best I ve ever had inc greegs) - Homemade scones with a selection of Jams and Clotted cream :). Cappuccino was lovely and we traditional pot of tea in a China cup a saucer. Would highly recommend and would defiantly go back again.

Found by chance off the mains street and so pleased we did. Friendly and passionate staff, nice choice of food, China cups and saucers too! Soup and a sandwich was great as was the cake! Excellent value for money. Places like these are rare these days and it’s much better to spend your money with an independent rather than a high street chain.

Good food, good prices, great atmosphere and service and a lovely environment. They nailed our full English which came with a cauldron of tea and some easy-going chit chat which made us feel very welcome and valued. There's a great selection of teas and they support local artists by displaying and selling their creations. They have a foot each in the traditional and the modern and the balance is spot on. They're obviously an important part of the community as proved by their interaction with some regulars and they deserve to be so for their warmth and dedication.

Took visiting family here for an afternoon tea and was not disappointed. Delicious food with good portions (we had to take some leftovers home), staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. In a nice cobbled courtyard off the main road for a charming atmosphere. They also display the work of local artists which is a nice addition. We reserved a table and I would probably recommend doing the same around the lunchtime rush at the weekend.

THE BEST tearoom in Derbyshire. a little hidden from the main street so can be quite quiet but the food is very good and very reasonably priced, and the people are lovely. when we went, there were three staff members so i expect that even when busy, the service would be good. dogs welcome, with a dog bowl at the door and free biscuits. I had a panini (7.95) and biscoff milkshake (2.50) and my dad had a full english (11.95) and an earl grey (2.75, and is a full teapot rather than just a cup). the teapot, cup, saucer and milk jug are all porcelain and mismatched, giving it a mismatched, Weasley house vibe. very clean, and in a small courtyard with two witchy independent shops.

My husband had the full breakfast I had the vegetarian breakfast. Lovely atmosphere in the cafe, pleasant surroundings and excellence service. The food was wonderful. We were very glad we chose the Lumsdale Tearooms to eat in. I can only post a picture of empty plates because that's what there was at the end of the meal! Had we had room we would have followed it up with a cake all of which looked delicious.
